Professor Shimizu and her students were deeply impressed by the painstaking attention to detail in the restoration process. They also acknowledged the city of Kaohsiung's commitment to cultural heritage conservation. Additionally, they witnessed the achievements of the National University of Kaohsiung in fostering connections between society and industry. The participating teams engaged in six matches for three days, contributing not only to improving domestic teams' skills but also fostering university exchanges and city diplomacy.The Taiwan-Japan University Football Friendship Tournament opened at the "Kaohsiung Nanzih Football Stadium." NUK Summer School debuts, inviting students from partner schools to Taiwan for SDGs exchange and cultural experience.

More than 30 students from partner schools from Vietnam, Malaysia, Canada, Thailand, Japan, and South Korea came to the National University of Kaohsiung (NUK) to participate in the 8-day program, which includes courses centered around "Climate Governance and Sustainability," "Exploration of Taiwanese Culture," and "Mandarin Learning." The course is also open to the students from the NUK, looking forward to strengthening cultural exchanges between countries through activities.In his opening speech, Wu Xinghao, Director of International Affairs, sincerely welcomed all participating students and shared with them the efforts of the NUK towards SDGs in the past few years. On the first day of the program, we were honored to have Professor Gracia Marin Duran, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Laws of University College London, deliver an engaging presentation on the development of the EU CBAM, the Paris Agreement, and the WTO legal compatibility.Having Professor Thomas Schomerus from Leuphana Universität Lüneburg's Leuphana Law School as a speaker on the following day is truly a prestigious opportunity. Professor Schomerus holds the Professorship for Public Law, in particular on Energy and Environmental Law. We are privileged to have him deliver a speech addressing the development of renewable energy in the European Union and Germany.During the activity, participants were actively engaged in discussions and discussed the challenges faced by their respective countries. Professor Schomerus emphasized that each country encounters different challenges in energy transition due to variations in geographical conditions, climate, population, and economic development levels. However, in the long term, from the perspectives of climate adaptation, energy independence, and cost-effectiveness, countries should remain committed to the development of alternative decarbonized energy sources and actively build policy frameworks to encourage and support these efforts.The follow-up course activities included sessions on climate change-related topics, Chinese language learning courses, as well as off-campus visits to the National Museum of Taiwan History, Chimei Museum, a trip to Meinong and Qishan Old Street, and a visit to the Huisun Forest Recreation Area. National University of Kaohsiung and Shu-Te University jointly formed the "Indigenous Culture Exchange Activities of Austronesian Culture" delegation.

This team visited the Philippines to learn from the local government, industry, and academia about their efforts in cultural preservation, experiences, and development. The delegation also promoted the unique characteristics of Taiwan's indigenous cultures. During this visit, they also received a promise from Junard "Ahong" Q. Chan, the mayor of Lapu-Lapu, Cebu, to help connect sister schools with the University of Cebu. The "Indigenous Culture Exchange Activities of Austronesian Culture" activity was supported by the Short-term Mobility Program of the Office of International Affairs at NUK. The teams from both universities started planning and training in April, with the official visit commencing on June 26 and concluding on July 2. Spanning over three months, the group of 11 members included representatives from various indigenous tribes such as Paiwan, Atayal, Amis, Bunun, and individuals of Han Chinese who share a strong passion for indigenous culture.During their exchange in the Philippines, the students and teachers enthusiastically showcased various aspects of Taiwan's indigenous culture, including traditional dances and crafts. Their efforts resonated with local high school students and community members, fostering connections between people of the same Austronesian linguistic family. This cultural exchange attracted attention and created a warm and friendly atmosphere between the two island nations.The participating students had a profound realization of the importance of English speaking and communication skills. Through the interaction process, they understood the diverse richness of Austronesian Island cultures. They witnessed the efforts of the local indigenous people to actively develop their characteristics and combine life and economy, which is worth learning from, and even referring to life planning and returning to their hometowns for employment. For instance, the students embarked on cultural heritage tours in Cebu, deepening their understanding of local traditions through visits to communities such as the Badjao and Aeti tribes. These visits allowed them to systematically explore various aspects of local cultures, including food, clothing, housing, rituals, and traditional dances.#SDG4 #SDG17

During the visit, President Yueh-Tuan Chen of the National University of Kaohsiung warmly welcomed them and expressed both universities' commitment to further collaboration in teaching, research, faculty and student exchange, and sports. Yueh-Tuan Chen stated that both universities established their sister school relationship and signed a student exchange agreement in 2018. Over the years, there has been frequent exchange of students and faculty. For example, in the 111th academic year, eight Srinakharinwirot University (SWU) students applied for exchange. With the global impact of the COVID-19 pandemic subsiding, she believes that the interaction between the two institutions will become even more frequent in the future. Notably, both universities share similar philosophies, placing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the core of their institutional governance. SWU is Thailand's first national teachers' university, established in 1949 and named by King Bhumibol Adulyadej in honor of his mother, Queen Srinagarindra.The Office of International Affairs at the National University of Kaohsiung coordinated this exchange activity between the two universities. Xing-Hao WU, Dean of International Affairs at NUK, mentioned that soccer is one of the national sports in Thailand. He highlighted that NUK is aligned with the national policy and has been actively developing soccer programs. The university's soccer team formed just a year ago, has already succeeded by winning the male third division championship in the University Football Association and advancing to the male second division. Invite overseas students to enjoy meals and care about their academic studies and school life. Dean of International Affairs Xing-Hao Wu repeatedly emphasized the importance of safety outside. Especially for overseas students staying in Taiwan and working part-time, they should check the legality and safety of their work to spend their summer vacation happily.Hsing-Hao Wu stated that among the overseas students studying at NUK, there are 232 undergraduate students and 20 exchange students, many of whom are from Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, and other countries. 2023 Asia Virtual Academy Conference Unites 8 Universities from 6 Countries to Address “Climate Resilience and Sustainable Societies”

During the conference, memorandums of understanding (MOUs) were signed with the Institute of Aeronautical Engineering from India and the University of the Ryukyus from Japan, fostering academic exchanges and establishing partnerships between the universities.Yueh-Tuan Chen, President of the NUK, along with Haranadh Prasad, Dean of the College of Engineering at the Institute of Aeronautical Engineering in India, and Ikue Kina, Vice President of the University of the Ryukyus in Japan, signed an MOU. They were greeted by Jyh-wen, Chern, the director of the Language Center, to discuss future cooperation between the two universities.On the morning of the 26th, representatives from the Korean Language Education Center (KLEC) of Seoul National University visited the Language Center of NUK. During the meeting, both sides discussed the operating conditions of the two universities and explored possible opportunities for interflow studying resources. The goal is to offer students a broader selection of language courses and more chances to enhance their language skills. During the meeting, both sides discussed that with the cooperative partnership with Seoul National University, the Language Center of NUK will provide online Chinese courses or a short-term study group on Chinese and its culture for students of Seoul National University during summer or winter breaks. The cooperation will strengthen the partnership between the two universities while promoting further interaction.Seoul National University's Korean Language Education Center (KLEC) has been teaching Korean to international students and foreigners in Korea since its establishment in 1969. With a team of professional teachers who develop courses, KLEC has gained a reputation for its excellent teaching experience and proficiency.At NUK, our Language Center has been offering language proficiency tests and courses in English and other languages to students, faculty members, and the public since its inception in August 2002. The integration of the Chinese Language Center in January 2013 has further enhanced our ability to provide Chinese language courses that enable participation and integration with the global community.The Language Center and Korean Language Education Center have both been committed to language training for a significant period. During our meeting, we gained a better understanding of each other's operating conditions, which presented an opportunity to establish a strong partnership between our universities.
